ABOUT
Terrain Collective is the consultancy of Frederic Terral, who has been trekking the wilds of creative terrains for over two decades. From the Fortune 500 to nonprofits, and from museums to government agencies, Frederic has been the creative sherpa for countless strategy, design, and branding expeditions.
He began his creative career with The Walt Disney Company as a project manager, director and producer working on a variety of film, video and digital media projects for attractions throughout The Walt Disney Company. While at Disney, Frederic co-engineered a strategic alliance with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) to produce digital media projects for the Town of Celebration, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, The Magic Kingdom, Disney Studios, and countless attractions.
In 2001, Frederic met Wright Massey, founder of Brand Architecture (later renamed to Terrain Collective under Frederic’s ownership). Wright is celebrated for his many achievements, but his most notable one is for leading the design and rollout of the Starbucks store experience that helped launch a global brand. Together, Wright and Frederic collaborated with exceptional creative minds to redesign of the iconic Coca-Cola Sign in New York’s Times Square (2004-2017) and rebranding projects for Outback Steakhouse, The Coca-Cola Company, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Jack in the Box, Odwalla Juice, Sweet Tomatoes, and many more.
Frederic served as the Creative & Communications Director for Gaia Herbs, one of the leading herbal brands in North America. He oversaw the rebrand of this beloved 35-year-old company that impacted packaging, websites, branded films, social channels, digital marketplaces, in-store displays, trade promotions, and the flagship trade show booth unveiled at Natural Products Expo West. Frederic built an internal agency known as The Hive to manage the rebrand entirely in-house. The results were received with rave reviews by the founder, the board, new ownership, and the executive team and customers alike.
In 2017 Frederic launched his most personal, mission-driven brand called Pockitudes, a kindness and gratitude journal practice to support people’s mental well-being and encourage positive mental health. Frederic created this journal practice during his own journey to living a fulfilled life of gratitude and positive mental health. The journals were initially sold at CVS, Whole Foods, and at retailers throughout the U.S.
Today, custom branded Pockitudes journals are sold to mental health departments, the military, schools & universities, for events & conferences, and to private and public corporations such as, BetterHelp, Bayer, REI, Abbott, Equinox Fitness Clubs, Square, and many more. Proceeds of all sales are donated to independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations supporting the mental health needs of underserved communities.
Frederic is a seasoned Creative Director and a fractional Executive Creative Director with a passion for creativity, matched only by his enthusiasm for leading and inspiring talented, creative professionals to exceed their own expectations. He has a proven track record of building and managing creative teams of all sizes, and of fostering team harmony and collaboration for a common purpose. Frederic serves as an advisor to founders and executive teams seeking to craft more impactful brand experiences, optimize internal creative teams, hire the best creative talent, and identify compatible creative agency partners.
Frederic was born in Lyon, France and is fluent in speaking French. He currently resides in the shadow of Bull Mountain in beautiful Asheville, NC with his best friend and wife, Misa, their son and daughter, Eric & Maya, a corn snake, Cheeto, and a very clingy cat, Cici.
“I’ve been humbled enough times to approach all clients, projects and team members with humility, patience, and a grounded ego.” – Frederic Terral
